Digital accessibility at the European Parliament

Summary

Time: 14:00–15:00 CEST (Geneva time)

Accessibility is a fundamental right and must be a primary consideration for parliaments. This webinar will explore how the European Parliament ensures inclusive digital experiences across its public websites, mobile applications, intranets and electronic documents.

The session will cover the core principles of digital accessibility, alongside the legislative landscape – including the Web Accessibility Directive and the European Accessibility Act. Participants will get an inside look at the European Parliament’s digital accessibility mandate and road map, as well as at the work of its Digital Accessibility Competence Centre, where experts collaborate with users with disabilities to embed accessibility requirements across the organization.

The webinar will present the Digital Accessibility Officer Network, quality control audits, and compliance reporting tools such as the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template. The session will close with a live demonstration of the EU long-term budget website, showing how high-level policy translates into a functional, inclusive user experience.

This webinar is intended for parliamentary IT staff, digital communication teams, and managers responsible for, or involved in, digital accessibility policy and implementation.

Speakers: Mr. Gerrit Potoms, Ms. Tanja Kleut and Mr. Nuno Jesus, Solution Design and Quality Assurance Unit, Directorate-General for Information Technologies and Cybersecurity (DG ITEC), European Parliament
