Women and work

Women and work

As part of its efforts to strengthen the capacity of parliaments to promote gender equality and respect for women's rights, the IPU organised its second meeting of members of parliamentary bodies dealing with gender issues in Geneva, in December 2007.

Women and Work was the general topic of this second Seminar, which was organised by the IPU in cooperation with the International Labour Organisation and was also open to parliamentary bodies dealing with labour issues. It brought together members of parliament to discuss ways and means of identifying key priority areas for action and parliamentary initiatives and strategies to achieve equality between men and women on the labour market. This publication contains the experts' contributions, extracts of the debates and the summary and recommendations of the Rapporteur of the seminar.
