Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. From big data to the cloud, innovation trends are shaking up parliamentary business. And these trends have only been accelerated by the pandemic, which has seen an exponential growth of remote working and hybrid parliamentary proceedings. Senior parliamentary leaders must engage more than ever in IT governance and digital strategy planning.
The IPU’s Centre for Innovation in Parliament (CIP) is therefore pleased to present the Transforming parliaments webinar series. The series is open to all parliaments. It is organized by CIP’s Open Data Hub and IT Governance Hub, which are hosted by Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies and the European Parliament respectively.
