Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. The online briefing will aim to provide parliamentarians with a deeper understanding of how parliamentarians, in line with their constitutional powers, can help to advance children’s rights, including through the adoption of parliamentary strategic plans as well as their support for the work of the CRC. Secondly, it will seek to explore how parliamentarians can ensure adequate public financing for the promotion and protection of children’s rights. Lastly, the briefing will offer an opportunity to exchange best parliamentary practices both with regard to the promotion of the rights of the child and parliaments’ contribution to the work of the CRC.
