Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships: The consultant will work directly with the Senior Adviser to the Secretary General and the Executive Office to support the work of the Office in the areas of peace, counter-terrorism and other related fields.
Deliverables: The consultant will assist the Executive Office with the following deliverables:
- Conduct research, attend meetings and draft reports for IPU activities in the areas of peace, security, national reconciliation and dialogue;
- Make preparations for implementation of the Parliamentary Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
- Draft the agenda, convocation, background documents and reports of the Committee on Middle East Questions, including its projects of peace;
- Attend meetings and drafting meeting reports and notes for the file;
- Draft a weekly news bulletin for the Secretary General on developments in certain Arab countries;
- Liaise with external partners;
- Any other deliverables as may be deemed necessary.
Work implies frequent interactions with following:
- The Executive Office
- Specialized IPU bodies and committees
- External partners and institutions
Results expected: High-quality outputs. Excellent research skills, production of high-calibre reports and efficiency in providing general administrative and logistical support to committees. A high level of discretion and commitment is essential.
Qualifications:
Education: University degree in international relations, political science, law or a related field.
Language: A perfect command of written and spoken English, and an excellent knowledge of French and another UN language, preferably Spanish. Knowledge of other languages will be an advantage.
Experience: Internship or minimal work experience.
Other skills: Previous experience of working in a parliamentary environment will be a distinct advantage
Contract length: 3 months renewable commencing on 3 January 2017.
Remuneration This consultancy is being offered at CHF 5,500 per month.
Location: The consultancy is based at IPU Headquarters in Geneva.
