Internship with the Technical Cooperation Programme

Mission

Under the supervision of the Programme Officer, the intern will process and organise data for updating the web pages of the IPU website relating to technical co-operation projects. The intern will also help to update and organise in a user-friendly way the IPU roster of experts.  The intern will for this purpose undertake the following tasks:

Updating technical co-operation web pages:

  • Consult IPU documentation and archives as well as undertake additional research with a view to compiling comprehensive data on technical co-operation projects  and specialised meetings implemented by the IPU since the inception of the technical co-operation programme in the early 1970s;
  • Prepare project profiles on all these projects and meetings ready for posting  on the website;
  • Update the matrix of all projects undertaken since the inception of the Programme;
  • Review visual presentation of the TCP statistics sheet;
  • Propose enhanced ways of presenting information.

Updating roster of experts

  • Review the organisation of the current roster to enhance its accessibility;
  • Review the information already provided by experts;
  • Prepare and send routine messages to experts to obtain updated data;
  • Encode new information received.

Occasional ad hoc assignments related to the work of the programme may also be required.

Work implies frequent interaction with the following: IPU staff, IPU experts.

Expected results:

  • Updated database of technical co-operation project profiles and other specialised meetings;
  • Updated matrix of projects;
  • Updated and more accessible database of IPU experts that would allow easier identification of experts for IPU technical co-operation missions.

Requirements:

  • University degree in law, political science, international relations, or related fields;
  • Good knowledge of the functioning of national parliaments;
  • Excellent research and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Excellent writing skills in English or French, as well as a good knowledge of the other language.  Knowledge of Spanish, Arabic and/or other languages will be appreciated;
  • General computer skills (MS Office applications, Internet).

Period of internship: 4 months minimum during 2018.

Working hours: 37h30 per week.

Remuneration: The IPU will pay the intern a monthly allowance of CHF1000.
