Junior Consultant, Executive Office

Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships
The Junior Consultant will work directly with the Senior Adviser to the Secretary General and the Executive Office to provide support in the area of peace and security.

Deliverables
The Junior Consultant will assist the Senior Adviser to the Secretary General and the Executive Office with the following deliverables:

  • Provide overall administrative support to the Senior Adviser to the Secretary General;
  • Provide assistance to the Secretary of the Executive Committee and Governing Council  for the sessions of these bodies;
  • Assist in designing new projects and set up mechanisms for their effective follow up;
  • Edit reports in English and prepare data;
  • Draft notes and reports of meetings;
  • Draft the agenda, prepare convocation and background documents for the Committee on Middle East Questions;
  • Provide logistical support for workshops and meetings;
  • Propose and develop project management tools aimed at facilitating work in the area of peace and security;
  • Develop and maintain a contact spread sheet for the programme area;
  • Prepare Power Point presentations and other communication material on programme activities;
  • Provide input to a weekly news bulletin for the Secretary General on developments in certain Arab countries;
  • Assist with any other deliverables as may be deemed necessary.

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:

  • The Executive Office and Secretariat staff in general
  • Specialized IPU bodies and committees
  • External partners and institutions

Results expected
High-quality outputs; speedy delivery of services. Production of high-calibre reports. Efficiency in providing general administrative and logistical support. A high level of discretion and commitment is essential.

Qualifications
Education: Advanced university degree in international relations, political science, law or a related field.

Language
A perfect command of written and spoken English, an excellent knowledge of French and other UN languages, preferably Spanish. Knowledge of other languages will be an advantage.

Experience
At least 1 year of work experience in a similar or relevant field.

Other skills
Previous experience working in a parliamentary environment, including the IPU, will be a distinct advantage. Excellent editing skills are necessary for this position.

Contract length
6 months contact, renewable.

Remuneration
This consultancy is being offered at CHF 5,500 per month.
