Internship in the IPU’s International Development Programme

Context
The intern will support the activities of the IPU’s International Development Programme, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and health.

Key deliverables

  • Assist with the organization of the IPU’s regional seminars and national workshops on the SDGs and health.
  • Help draft documents (e.g. background and speaking notes for the IPU President and Secretary General’s international engagements).
  • Develop a tracking method to support the implementation of the accountability framework for the IPU resolution on universal health coverage (UHC), and systematically track information on IPU activities on health.
  • Help develop a resource for parliamentarians on UHC. 
  • Systematically collect and document examples of good parliamentary practices on the SDGs.
  • Assist with the IPU’s work around the 2020 High-level Political Forum (HLPF).
  • Attend and report on relevant events at the United Nations. 

Requirements

  • University degree in development studies, international relations, political science, law, or a related field.  
  • Good knowledge of key international development frameworks and concepts. 
  • Good research and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Excellent writing skills in English and preferably a good knowledge of French. 
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office including Excel; advanced use of the Internet including the use of social media tools.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Competent at filing and updating records.
  • Multitasking and flexibility.

Duration of internship
The contract will run from 1 January to 30 June 2020. 

Modalities
In conducting these activities, the intern shall work under the direction of the Programme Manager for International Development. The IPU’s working hours are 37.5 hours per week. 

Location
The internship will be carried out at IPU Headquarters in Geneva. 

Remuneration 
The IPU will pay the intern a monthly allowance of CHF 1,000.
