Consultancy Digital Communications (Junior)

Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships

The Communications Division is seeking a Junior Digital Communications Consultant working on an 80 per cent basis.   

He/she will assist in the implementation of a refreshed 2022-2026 IPU Communications Strategy with a particular focus on digital communications and more targeted engagement with the IPU’s primary audience of 46,000 parliamentarians in the world.

Description and deliverables

The support will involve the following:

  • Working closely with the Senior Digital Communications Consultant to implement the next phase of the IPU customer relationship management system (CRM)  
  • Populating the CRM with key IPU stakeholders starting with parliamentarians but also actors who are part of parliamentary ecosystems (e.g., executive branch, political parties, UN partners, civil society organizations, the media, academia…).
  • Enriching the CRM to build up ‘communities of practice’ of audiences, particularly parliamentarians, based on their policy areas eg. MPs interested in gender equality, experts on climate change, human rights, peace and security etc.
  • Developing digital outreach products (mail shots, news flashes, newsletters…) for more targeted communication based on policy areas
  • Supporting communications campaigns digitally (the IPU’s 2021 I Say Yes to Youth in Parliament! campaign, a climate change campaign 2022…)
  • Supporting promotion and dissemination of new IPU digital products on climate change for parliamentarians (e.g. videos, information pages, stories, toolkits) in line with the new IPU strategy
  • Supporting the Web and Social Media Editor in the renovation, updates and development of www.ipu.org in line with the refreshed 2022-2026 Communications Strategy
  • General support for the IPU’s digital transformation including new platforms such as e-learning, intranet and extranet functions, virtual event platform, counter-terrorism products…
  • General support for the IPU’s Communications Director and Division including administrative and operational planning
  • Support for IPU Assemblies and other events when necessary

Work implies frequent interaction with the following

  • The IPU Communications Division
  • IPU Secretariat
  • Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff.

Qualifications and experience

  • University degree in communications or related field;
  • Proven organizational skills; ability to manage and prioritize various tasks;
  • At least 2 years of work experience in a similar or relevant field;
  • Good working knowledge of communications, digital tools and social media;
  • Experience in maintaining software, in particular mobile applications;

Language

Native command of written and spoken English, knowledge of French and good communication skills, additional knowledge of Arabic or Spanish would be an asset.

Duration and location

The consultancy is for 4 days a week at the House of Parliaments in Geneva, Switzerland. Duration 10 months. Start date 15 April 2022.

Location

The position shall be based at the IPU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Remuneration

This consultancy is being offered at CHF 3,750 per month.
